SolarFast: An Instructional Video

SolarFast: Sunlight-developed dyes for paper and natural fabrics SolarFast dyes are used to create photograms, continuous tone photographs, shadow prints, and ombrès on fabric and paper.

SolarFast is also great for painting, tie dyeing, screen printing, stamping, batik and more!

SolarFast dyes only develop color and become permanent upon exposure to sunlight (UV). This unique property means SolarFast may be used to create remarkably detailed photographs, photograms and shadow-prints on paper or fabric by harnessing the power of the sun!

Procion MX dyes are “cold water dyes” that are fixed chemically instead of with heat. This unique property sets Procion MX apart from all other dyes and establishes them as the undisputed king of backyard dyeing, batik and tie dye. Because Procion MX dyes can be used away from the stovetop, they are also the ideal colors for shibori, ice dyeing, tub and low water immersion dyeing, printing, direct painting and other “alternative” dye applications.

Dorland’s Wax used as a protective topcoat for sealing and finishing a variety of media from oil paintings to collage, Dorland’s Wax is especially popular as a varnish for watercolor and gouache paintings. It provides a durable waterproof finish, protecting the artwork from moisture, smudging, dust, and fingerprints, while adding depth to color and allowing for glassless framing and display. Applied with a fine cloth or gloved hand, it is easy to use, and the finish is malleable: leave it matte, or buff with a rag after drying for a uniform satin gloss.
